Integration and development of practical knowledge and skills necessary for the management and technical management of meat, dairy and double purpose sheep and goat farms
Syllabus
Theoretical: Structure and management techniques of meat, dairy and double purpose sheep and goat farms: sectors (the breeding herd; kids/ lambs; young stock); functions (milking, feeding, reproduction, hygiene and health, breeding), housing and equipment, management and technical management by sector.
Theoretical and Practical: Follow-up/ execution of sheep and goat farm management activities: handling techniques, feeding, reproduction and hygiene and health. Study visits to sheep and goat farms in the region.
Mentoring Orientation: Coordination and support of the activities involved in operating the farm.
Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's learning objectives
Integrative approach to the functioning of major sheep and goat production systems, with the quality of various products are obtained and their environmental impact.
The focus is on the farm as a whole, to give an understanding of its structure and functioning, and on management activities, to enable for their execution.
Actual sessions: Theoretical and practical and with the presentation of different animal production systems and their functioning.
Tutorial guidance and independent work: bibliographical research for preparation of the report dealt with thematic description of the production system, critical analysis and presentation of alternatives.

Assessment methods and criteria:
Continuous assessment: Written test (WT) covering the entire syllabus - 2.
Admission to examination: registration in the course unit
Exemption from the examination: (WT1+WT2)/2 >=10; WT >=8
Final examination: written test, covering the entire syllabus; Minimum approval requirements: final grade >= 10

Demonstration of the coherence between the teaching methodologies and the learning outcomes
Theoretical sessions should be used, preferably, the expository method. With these sessions is intended that students acquire theoretical knowledge about the main aspects related fundamental concepts of traditional exploitation of the sheeps and goats livestock. The written tests are designed to assess, preferably, this knowledge. The theoreticalpractical sessions and study visits, conducted outside the classroom will, preferably in the statement with the aim that students acquire skills for the comprehension of procedures related to the farm, in real situations in the business.
Tutorial guidance will allow the consolidation of knowledge of subjects taught, as well as preparing the student for presentation and discussion of the work
