- Capacity for the evaluation, interpretation and critical synthesis of information that facilitate the understanding of the patterns of physical activity of a person or of a specific group;
- Ability, integrating health teams, to apply their knowledge, with a view to support and promote the health, well-being and comfort of people and groups, supported by guidelines and up-to-date scientific evidence.
Fundamental concepts and general guidelines for the practice of physical activity; Physical activity habits in the Portuguese and European population; Health benefits of regular physical activity; Risks of physical inactivity for health and well-being; Safe practice of physical activity; Physical activity throughout the life cycle; Physical activity in populations/groups with special needs; Guidelines, national and international, to support nurses and the health team in the implementation of physical activity programs for specific people or groups.
The practice of physical activity has traditionally been associated with the areas of leisure and education, however, in recent times, it has been recognized, given the evidence of its high benefits for the health and well-being of populations, as a fundamental strategy for public health. Faced with the evidence of the relationship between the prevalence of diseases resulting from physical inactivity, the nurse, as a promoter of healthy behavior patterns, has the responsibility of identifying, interpreting and intervening in the promotion of the practice of regular and appropriate physical activity for the person or group. Proximity to people, which stems from the nature of their work, should constitute an added value in this process of interprofessional articulation. Given that the implementation of physical activity programs should take into account a safe professional practice, integrating the health team, it will necessarily have to evaluate, interpret and substantiate any clinical limitations arising from the specificities of the person or group, as well as integrating guidelines arising from the most up-to-date scientific evidence.
The mobilization of the following methodologies is
recommended: theoretical and theoretical practical sessions of framing and
research on the themes of the curricular unit; analysis, in a group, and its
discussion, in a seminar, of themes related to specific populations to be
negotiated between students and professors; tutorial activities will be used to
guide different groups during the preparation of presentations in the
classroom.
The final grade of the UC will result from the arithmetic average of the
presentation and discussion of each group in the classroom and its delivery on the
Moodle platform (50%) and from a frequency (individual) that competes with
(50%) for the final grade of the UC.
The autonomous component of the UC should be carried out by the student through
research and analysis of scientific literature on the topics addressed and
others considered relevant for deepening/consolidating knowledge that promotes
the development of the skills provided for this UC
It is intended that the methodologies used promote the active participation of the student throughout the teaching/learning process and the understanding and critical analysis of the contents of this curricular unit. In this sense, the use of these strategies, such as guided literature review, theoretical teaching sessions, theoretical practices, tutorial guidance and seminars on topics related to people and specific groups, aim to enable students to identify factors that result from physical inactivity and sedentary lifestyle and which prove to be generators of imbalance in the health/disease process and to be able to, given the identified data and its knowledge about the limitations of some specific groups, take into account updated guidelines and a safe nursing practice, collaborate in the implementation and evaluation of the person or group in a physical activity program. It is also intended to develop skills that allow them, in addition to understanding the intervention of nurses in the context of promoting physical activity as an integrated practice of health and well-being, throughout the human life cycle, and linked to groups with special needs, to establish practical action strategies, in collaboration with professionals from other areas with affinities to this theme. With the analysis, presentation and discussion in the classroom, in a group, of specific themes related to the practice of physical activity in special populations, it is intended that the student demonstrates grounded knowledge that will allow them, later, to develop systemic competences, in the different contexts of their clinical practice
