Learning outcomes of the curricular unit (knowledge, skills and competences to be developed by the students)

Ability to understand the problematic of the person / family experiencing health / illness processes in the peri operative period; Recognizing the repercussions of the surgical intervention in the person / family, considering their relationship with the provision of health care, at different levels of prevention
Ability to understand the etiopathogeny, pathophysiology, clinical, complementary means of diagnosis and treatment of different surgical situations
Ability to plan the care of the person / family in a perioperative situation, and to perform the necessary procedures (in a laboratory context) when caring for the person in a perioperative situation
Interpersonal ability to work in groups, and communication of results on the analysis of cases
Ability to make decision based on critical thinking, integrating the ethical aspects

Syllabus

The person and family and the transition health/disease in the perioperative period:
Circuit of the person undergoing surgery
The preoperative period
Communication with the patient, information collection, prevention and correction of risk factors, preoperative visit, preoperative protocols
the intraoperative period
The surgical environment, the surgical team, the nurse's activities
the postoperative period
UCPA and immediate postoperative, mid and late postoperative preparation for homecoming
The process of caring for the person and family, with dysfunction of the body systems experiencing surgical situations
Legal ethical aspects inherent to organ transplantation

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's learning objectives

The content addressed allows us to reach the objectives defined for the curricular unit, as they address the situations that lead to surgical interventions and the care process, with relevance of perioperative nursing diagnoses/interventions arising from each specific situation of the health/illness process in the surgical context.
The planning of nursing care to the person/family experiencing specific situations of the health/illness process in the context of the surgical area, allows the integrative approach of which the understanding of the pathophysiological processes inherent to each surgical situation is highlighted.
Regarding laboratory practices, they are demonstrated and performed by the student, discussed in the classroom, so that the student may acquire the instrumental skills that enable the provision of perioperative care.

Teaching methodologies (including evaluation)

Expository sessions, with student participation.
Analysis of situations related to practice, worked on by students.
Laboratory practice sessions, carried out in a laboratory context.
The hours of autonomous work will be used by the student for research, analysis and preparation of the study of the contents of the UC.
Assessment: 2 written tests, which contribute 50% each to the final average.

Demonstration of the coherence between the teaching methodologies and the learning outcomes

In the learning in the cognitive domain, the expository method will be privileged, emphasizing the learning by the mobilization of previous knowledge and experiences, and based on the autonomous work of the student.
For the teaching of the contents about the person and the health / illness processes at the level of the various body systems of a theoretical and practical nature, it is preferable to discuss cases and demonstrate procedures, in the sense of the active construction of the learning process.
The elaboration and discussion of a case fosters the deepening of knowledge and understanding of the person's interconnected form, the rationale of the reasons that lead to the planning of care and the group reflection, centred on aspects relevant for their learning.
Regarding the laboratory practice classes, the contents are demonstrated and discussed in the laboratory where all procedures are performed.
