Autonomy in nursing: dimensions and strategies
Considering that the reflection and analysis of the practice can constitute an important process for learning and development, we organize the continuity of the study of nursing theories and models from the clinical teaching experiences, in which the student had the opportunity, not only to provide care, but also to observe and analyze care provided by nurses, which will facilitate the understanding of the importance of its applicability.
In order for the student to recognize the importance of autonomy in nursing, it is imperative that he mobilize legal documents that substantiate the professional autonomy of the nurse and recognize that it is this professional autonomy that allows him to perform autonomous functions. In these autonomous nursing interventions performed by nurses, under their sole and exclusive initiative and responsibility, it is essential that the student has knowledge about new nursing care interventions.
Expository/interactive method in the conceptual framework of the themes.
Recreation of teaching-learning scenarios/stimulus situations with students, based on situations experienced in clinical teaching. Having as a reference the conceptual perspectives in nursing, it is intended to promote the development of their ability to analyze and reflect on practices, from a perspective of professional autonomy.
Reading, analysis and discussion of articles/documents in groups is also privileged, with a view to valuing evidence-based practice.
The individual assessment will be done through a reflective, written analysis, dealing with any of the syllabus, to be selected by the students, contributing with 70% for the final assessment; and a written work, in group, which contributes with 30% for the final evaluation of the UC.
The autonomous component of the curricular unit will be carried out through bibliographical research and complementary readings recommended by the teachers.
In the approach to this curricular unit, in addition to the use of interactive exposition sessions, students are expected to participate in their own learning, with a consequent increase in motivation, promoting document analysis, which will provide an enrichment of learning.
It is in practice that nursing theories and models assume visibility and, to this end, nurses need to consciously recognize their value and need. Thus, in order to stimulate research on the theme, individual responsibility, making the knowledge about nursing theories and models a pleasant, productive and effective task, it is intended that the student deepen the knowledge about the applicability of theoretical nursing models, reflecting and analyzing, in a group, the experiences lived in clinical teaching.
On the other hand, the use of theoretical-practical classes, tutorial orientation and seminar with regard to organizing themes, aims to promote the practice of nursing autonomy care.
The final discussion on the themes will be done in an oral and a group seminar.
