Learning outcomes of the curricular unit (knowledge, skills and competences to be developed by the students)

Provide an overview of legal system, domestic, UE and International. An introduction to Comparative Law, in order to get better knowledgment of foreign law. Concepts, general principles and fundamental institutes, in particular under Private law and International Private Law.

International and national sources of law

The legislative process. The effectiveness of law
Interpretation and application of the law in space and time
End of the law effectiveness
The Branches of Law: Public and Private Law
The Private International Law: function, concept and scope
The conflict rules: object and structural elements
The European Union Law
The Comparative Law: the Roman-Germanic and Anglo-Saxon legal systems
The Juridical Relation: concept and elements

The characterization of the international legal-private relationship
The Persons
Individual persons: personality and legal capacity
Legal persons: concept, types and subtypes
The object: concept and classification of things and services
Legal Fact: legal acts and business legal
The Contract: notion, basic principles and essential elements

The Warranty: the coercitivity
The Application of Law
Public agencies and judicial system
The alternative dispute resolutio

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's learning objectives

The globalization involves, for businesses and people increasingly, general and special legal knowledge, giving managers the minimal instruments of a right framework for situations and, in some, for their effective resolution.

Teaching methodologies (including evaluation)

Teaching Methods: the classes are theoretical and practical, with the presentation of contents, practical exercises about interpretation and application of law, as well as the choosing of the law applicable to international juridical relations, with the resolution of practical exercises.
Assessment: The continuous evaluation method is adopted, which includes class participation and the performance in two tests written.
A score bellow 8 (eight) values in any of de tests prevents the exemption from the final exam. The achievement of 8 or 9 values in the written part of the final exam allows the performance of an oral examination.

Demonstration of the coherence between the teaching methodologies and the learning outcomes

Study and critical evaluation of legal texts, with formulation of issues raised by their reading, as well as the presentation and resolution of practical cases.
