Learning outcomes of the curricular unit (knowledge, skills and competences to be developed by the students)

Ability to understand and analyze interdisciplinary knowledge related to health promotion of women/couple/family/groups and community considering the sociocultural context sexual and reproductive rights, vulnerable groups and their health needs.

Ability to integrate interdisciplinary knowledge for problem solving in the field of prevention and health promotion and quality of life for women/couple/family/groups and community in the specific contexts of MOHN.

Ability to criticize individually and in group, from an interdisciplinary perspective on the implications and ethical and social responsibilities, in the care process for women/couple/family/ groups and community with a focus on health promotion.

Ability to synthesize and transfer scientific knowledge based on the analysis of the best scientific evidence, to the development of health promotion actions and strategies for women/couple/family/groups and community within the scope of MOHN.

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's learning objectives

The contents of this area of knowledge in maternal and obstetric health nursing support and reinforce a set of knowledge and previous learning, so an interdisciplinary approach is promoted.
The organization of the contents is based on a broad and complex vision in this specific area, as well as an approach to theories and strategies of education for sexual and reproductive health and citizenship. They aim to develop the capacity for intervention in the promotion of healthy lifestyles in women/couple/family/vulnerable groups and community, leading to well-being and improved quality of life, discussed based on the principles of holistic conception of the human being, joint interprofessional and interdisciplinary action, empowerment and participation of the person/group and community, equity and sustainability. The capacity for reflection, analysis and discussion of situations and decision-making from the perspective of evidence-based practice is developed. 

Teaching methodologies (including evaluation)

An active model is favored, centered on the master's student, making him/her the active subject of their learning, using different teaching and learning methods and strategies. Sessions using theoretical and theoretical-practical exposition to carry out practical exercises in groups, raising in master's student critical reflection and sharing of their practices in the context of health promotion. The research, reading and guided analysis of reference texts, from a perspective of evidence-based practice, with class discussion, allows for an in-depth analysis of the themes, through the questioning and sharing of the different perspectives raised.
The autonomous component of the UC is achieved through reading, critical reflection and systematization of fundamental ideas about the topics covered and others that complement the development of skills and that enhance decision-making.


Evaluation: 1 (one) group work (100%), in the written version weighted by 60% and presentation in seminar 40%.


Demonstration of the coherence between the teaching methodologies and the learning outcomes

The curricular unit combines interactive methodologies, research and analysis of documents based on scientific evidence and the individual experience of master's students to deepen knowledge, competencies and skills to provide maternal and obstetric health nursing care, considering the sociocultural context, the sexual and reproductive rights and health needs, with a focus on health promotion and quality of life of women/couples/families/vulnerable groups and the community.
Reflective analysis, individually and in small groups, and sharing and discussion, in the large group and with the teacher, are promoted. Therefore, favoring the understanding of the specificity of the nurse's intervention in maternal and obstetric health, and the foundation of the decision-making process and problem solving, in the field of prevention and health promotion.
The use of group work aims to stimulate research on the theme, individual accountability and motivation for learning, making it a pleasant, productive and effective task for knowledge about health promotion in this specific area of nursing.
