Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's learning objectives

It is intended that the master's student develops cognitive, technical and relational skills that allow the provision of specialized nursing care to women/couples, families in the pre-conception period and during pregnancy. Therefore, it is essential that you develop knowledge within the scope of health policies and the conceptual framework of maternal and obstetric health nursing, reproductive health, as well as knowledge about physiology and complications of pregnancy. The construction of knowledge in maternal and obstetric health is encouraged, allowing a systematic assessment of the woman/couple/family in different health/illness situations to make decisions and intervene in accordance with the specific skills of the specialist nurse in this area; the capacity for self and hetero criticism, analysis and decision-making in the care process is developed for the woman/couple, family in the pre-conception period and during pregnancy from a perspective of evidence-based practice

Teaching methodologies (including evaluation)

Model that assigns a central role to the master's student as an active subject of their learning. Sessions using theoretical exposition on concepts and structuring axes of the curricular unit. Theoretical-practical sessions in order to facilitate the assimilation of knowledge and skills framed in the analysis of situations in the practice of care. Research, reading and guided analysis of reference texts and from a perspective of evidence-based practice (individual and group). Emphasis will also be placed on simulation, during laboratory practice hours. Experts will be invited to address specific topics. The autonomous component of the curricular unit should be used by trainees for reading, critical reflection and self-analysis that enhance decision-making and the development of skills in specialized nursing. The final assessment results from the arithmetic average of 1 individual written test (50%) and 1 group work (50%).

Demonstration of the coherence between the teaching methodologies and the learning outcomes

The approach to this curricular unit involves the use of different methodologies, allowing master's students to participate in their own learning, with a consequent increase in motivation, as well as the development of critical analysis skills from an interdisciplinary perspective.
The deepening of theoretical knowledge on the main themes related to the professional practice of nurses specializing in maternal and obstetric health nursing, through structured information from the teacher and document analysis, aims to support the basis of the decision-making process and nurse intervention in terms of specialized care in the pre-conception period and pregnancy.
The development of group work presented in a seminar allows master's students to demonstrate group work and criticism skills, generating new ideas and learning based on the best scientific evidence.
The use of simulation aims to develop critical analysis, decision-making and intervention skills in order to maximize performance in the area of maternal health and obstetric nursing.
As the responsibility and self-education of the master's student is a fundamental principle, the mobilization of experiences and knowledge from their practice is promoted towards the (re)construction of new knowledge in order to achieve the objectives defined for this curricular unit.
