Learning outcomes of the curricular unit (knowledge, skills and competences to be developed by the students)

Understanding the application of statistical fundamentals 

Syllabus

Descriptive statistics:
Sampling processes,
Classification of variables,
Frequency tables;
Graphic representation;
Measurements of location, dispersion, asymmetry and flattening;
Reading and interpretation.
Inductive statistics:
Parametric and nonparametric tests;
Confidence intervals;
Reading and interpreting

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's learning objectives

The program contents are in line with the objectives of the curricular unit since the program was designed to address the basic concepts of statistics, thus achieving the objectives. The contents are developed using statistical software, which allows the analysis and processing of a large volume of information, being given primacy to the reading and interpretation of the data. Thus, the data are evidenced and systematized facilitating informed decision-making.

Teaching methodologies (including evaluation)

It is intended that students are able to develop skills necessary to mobilize in concrete situations the theoretical and technical resources of the UC, actively participating in its formative process. The teaching methodology will be based on the following aspects: Exposure of theoretical/practical matter always with the use of practical cases and computational implementation when possible; Resolution of exercises, referring to each topic of programmatic content; Permanent interaction with students, using active and participatory methodologies. Provision of support material on moodle platform.

Also in the contact hours the student can resort to research, and performing exercises. Continuous evaluation is used with two individual written tests with weighting of 50% for each one.
