Learning outcomes of the curricular unit (knowledge, skills and competences to be developed by the students)

Consolidate the knowledge in general chemistry.

Syllabus

Theoretical
1. Atomic Structure and Periodic Table. 2. Chemical bond. 3. Coordination Compounds. 4. Water and aqueous solutions. 5. Introduction to Thermochemistry. 6. Chemical Kinetics. 7. Chemical Equilibrium. 8. Acid-base reactions. 9. Precipitation reactions. 10. Chemistry of Colloids. 11. Redox reactions.
Laboratorial
1. Concentration solutions. 2. Chemical Equilibrium. 3. Acid-Base Reactions: Titration, buffer solutions. 4.Solubility product. 5. Redox Reactions.

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's learning objectives

It is intended to recall and amplify the concepts of general chemistry, so that student comprises chemical phenomena that occur in the various environmental compartments (soil, air and water).

Teaching methodologies (including evaluation)

Theoretical, laboratory and tutorial sessions; Assessment by written assays.
Evaluation:
All students enrolled in the course are admitted to final exam.
All assessment components must have greater than or equal to 8.
-Partial exemption:
The theoretical component is evaluated, during the semester through two written assay (TE); TE greater than or equal to 10.
The practical component (TL) is evaluated through four reports/ work sheets;
TL = average of reports/worksheets greater than or equal to 10.
-Total exemption:
Classification is calculated based on the equation: 0,70 TE+0,30 TL.
- Final Exam:
1 written assay (PE) + 1 laboratorial test (PL).
Classification is calculated based on the equation: 0,70 TE+0,30 PL.

Demonstration of the coherence between the teaching methodologies and the learning outcomes

In theoretical sessions are introduced the fundamental concepts of general chemistry. In tutorial sessions students will do exercises to apply the concepts presented in theoretical sessions. In laboratorial sessions will apply the concepts acquired in theoretical sessions.
