Learning outcomes and their compatibility with the teaching method (knowledge, skills and competencies to be developed by students)

As general objective, in this curricular unit it is intended that students identify multiple aspects of conceptual and practical nature determinant of Quality in social economy organizations.

As specific objectives, students must:
  1.     Describe the major stages in evolution of scientific thought about quality: from the industrial perspective of quality inspection to the models of excellence;
  2.     Define quality according to an holistic perspective, as the Total Quality approach;
  3.     Know the normative principles, criteria and indicators underlying the following models: ISO 9000/1, Social Security Manuals for the Qualification of Social Responses, and EQUASS;
  4.     Explain the benefits and costs of quality management systems and certification within the framework of social responses.

Syllabus

  1.     Retrospective of the concept of quality: from quality inspection to the models of excellence;
  2.     Functional framework of quality in organizations: the Total Quality approach;
  3.     Normative principles and requirements for quality management
  4.     Application of quality management systems in social responses

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit¿s learning objectives

Each point of the syllabus meets each specific goal of the curricular unit following the sequence in which they are presented. It should be noted that the fourth objective will be partially materialized in section 3; but will be in point 4 that greater focus will be given to it.

Teaching and learning methodologies specific to the curricular unit articulated with the pedagogical model

The method of teaching will be mixed combining theoretical lectures by the teacher with participation by students on topics of the program. The final mark under continuous evaluation will be determined as follows:
  •     Individual test writing: 40%;
  •     Attendance/intervention quality in class: 10%;
  •     Case study (including written report and presentation in class): 50%.
The case study will focus on point 4 of the syllabus. Under assessment by examination will be held one individual written test, dismissing any other instrument.

Demonstration of the coherence of teaching and evaluation methodologies between the learning objectives of the curricular unit

The teaching methodology adopted complies with the theoretical and practical nature of the course, with the fundamental requirement to promote practice-oriented research. It is intended, in particular, to stimulate the individual effort of students at the acquisition of theoretical knowledge, demonstrating their understanding of concepts, principles and requirements inherent in quality management systems.

At the same time, it is encouraged the close connection to the object of study of the curricular unit throught the case study. The students¿ participation will be a source of tacit knowledge to explore, facing their professional experience in the field of social responses and the exercise of individual reflection on the theoretical and empirical framework embodied into the program.

Observations

The teacher adapted the teaching and assessment method to the context of distance learning, adopting the system of individual essays at the end of each topic of the program, instead of an overall assessment test. The individual writtem tests were performed using Exam.net.
