Learning outcomes of the curricular unit (knowledge, skills and competences to be developed by the students)

The aim is for students to acquire knowledge and skills to: Understanding the development of vegetative annual cycles of fruit trees in all its phases, the physiological processes that occur in them and the factors that affect them and how depends the quantity and quality of the final production, as well as cultural techniques used; Production and use of different types of plants to plant orchards; Orchards Installation process.

Syllabus

       Fruit trees growing cycle and phenology. Floral differentiation. Budbreak and flowering. Causes of unproductivity. Stages of fruit growth and its determinants. Fruit thinning . Maturation. Ripening storage and standardization.
Fruit trees propagation . Sexual and assexual propagation: Execution techniques of sexual and vegetative direct and indirect propagation . Grafting Incompatibility . Reciprocal influences in grafted plants.
Orchards installation process. Soil preparation. Corrections. Infected soil sanitation . Planting techniques.

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's learning objectives

The study of the cycles of vegetation of fruit trees and all its stages and physiological processes that occur in them, with monitoring carried out in the orchard, during the practice sessions, will allow students to stay with a real knowledge and reasoned production process of this crops and its cultivation techniques.
The approach processes of the seminal and vegetative propagation and the different technologies used , will stay with the skills necessary for the production and use of different types of plants to be planted in orchards.
With the study of all the processes and techniques of orchards and vineyards planting, will allow the students to stay with the capabilities to design and execute.

Teaching methodologies (including evaluation)

Lectures, which will appear part in the classroom and part in the field, for the implementation of cultural practices such thining, summer pruning and harvest. Study visits in order to know the reality and the production techniques
used in fruit production.

Evaluation:
- Continuous assessment - written test (PE) - 1; Proof practice (PP) - 1;
- Formula dispense exam - 0.75 (PE) + 0.25 (PP), both proves must have minimum grade of 10 points;
- Final Examination - It consists of a written test, or a written test and a component relating to practical work;
-Final Classification - (0,75PE) written exam + (0,25) Proof practice; Both proves must have minimum grade of 10 points and

Demonstration of the coherence between the teaching methodologies and the learning outcomes

Lectures complemented with practical and field trips, so the contact with reality wake the need of theoretical knowledge and that they allow learning more reasoned cultural practices of fruit, which will be integrated with the development of a practical work.
